Homeopathy and other such alternative systems of Medicine are collectively called Complementary & Alternative Medicine (CAM). Unfortunately, Homeopathy is the last resort of several patients. They would have come here after running from post to post. After having been fed up with the vagaries of Allopathy and other systems too (if those systems have been misused by their practitioners). So, a Homeopath should be very patient with his/her patients.
Today’s patients usually come to the doctors only after getting satisfied with the reviews on Google Business, Practo, Lybrate, etc. Or the good old word-of-mouth.
Have an unprejudiced mind when a patient meets you, i.e., the Homeopath. Allow the patient to tell in his/her own words all the problems he/she faces. Once he/she has finished, let the attendant (usually an immediate family member or relative or a friend who has come along with the patient) talk. Of course, they will be talking about the patient and his/her problems.
A well-taken case is completion of 50% of the doctor’s job. The case sheet is thus a very important document upon which the Homeopath should rely upon. So, s/he should take accurate information. And do a complete clinical examination. After noting down all the symptoms. This can be written on paper in a book. Or directly typed in a document on a computer (laptop/desktop/tablet).
Then, the Homeopath should repertorize the case. And prescribe a correct and indicated Homeopathic remedy based upon Materia-medica and Organon of Medicine. Of course, it goes without saying that all the other clinical and medical aspects should also be taken into consideration. These days, telemedicine can also be used to prescribe medicines for patients. But do remember that this can never be a substitute for an in-person consultation.
However, today’s world is truly becoming a global village. In such a situation, there is no other go other than telemedicine to help patients consult from far and wide. Incorporation of the latest technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine learning (ML), Internet of Things (IoT), Blockchain technology, and advanced security is required. These can be used to properly diagnose the condition of the patient and store the data of the patient securely.
Attend to the patient as and when required and follow-up the patient’s condition until s/he become better and is completely cured of her/his ailment/condition. This has become all the more easy in today’s age. There are plenty of technology aids available like chat-bots, phones, etc. which can be used to communicate with the patient.
